While I don't know about that, I have been struggling to get my friends to play one of my favourites, a rather involved number called 'Agricola.' (It's all about medieval farming, but that's only a little bit important). While I think it's wonderfully fun, most of the friends I've played it with either dislike the style of the game, or find it too complicated.
Meanwhile, lately in my board game awakening, I've been looking for a way to introduce my girlfriend to my geekiest of hobbies without scaring her off the idea of board games entirely! An opportunity for this presented itself when I happened upon a 'mod' for Agricola on BGG (that's Board Game Geek for the uninitiated; the unquestioned home of board gaming online. And yes, it's really called that!).
The mod involves people who have replaced the animals in the game (typically represented by plain wooden cubes) with miniature sculptures made from a modelling clay called Fimo. They're unbelievably cute!

Isn't that way more fun?!
Last weekend, I showed some pictures of some of these Fimo creations to her, and she delightedly decided that we should make some together. Since then, she has already sourced some Fimo! We should be getting started this weekend. I'm excited about this foray into board gaming together, albeit unorthodox. However, I fear I will likely be quite inept at it!
I will make every effort to document my/our progress here.
